If you're a week old today, raise your hand!

Our little girl is 1 week old today! I can't believe time is going so quickly. In some ways I feel like this is still totally brand new, and it other ways I feel like she's been with us forever. The first few days were difficult - lack of sleep for both of us, plus recovering from surgery and whacky hormones for me. Slowly but surely we're learning how to adapt, adjusting our sleeping schedules to fit with Mikayla's as much as we can, taking turns napping while the other person watches the baby. It's a miracle what just a few hours of sleep can do for your sanity.

A few things we've learned about Mikayla over the last week:


She's amazingly strong and coordinated - she can already grasp onto things, get her hands to her mouth and suck on her fingers, has great neck control and we swear it seems like she's already trying to roll over. When we had her on her tummy the other day she was pumping her little legs like she was about to crawl. Our doc said that babies who are born big are often more physically advanced. I think we just have a bionic baby.

She can howl and scream as much as the next baby, but in usually when you give her what she needs (food, diaper change) she quiets down right away.

She makes the cutest expressions with her mouth, from smiles to puckering her mouth to looking like she's about to whistle. When she sleeps she sucks in her bottom lip just a bit - Jeremy says I do the same thing. :) Her eyes are so expressive too, I love the way she looks at her Daddy when he's holding her. S he insists on having her hands free because she loves to suck on them and put them up to her face - we often find her asleep with her hands cupping her cheeks or the side of her head.

She LOVES the swing her Auntie Azure bought us. Even in the middle of a howling her head off as soon as we put her in the swing and play one of the nature sounds it plays she calms down immediately and usually falls fast asleep. This has been a life saver when Mikayla is extra cranky and refuses to sleep in the middle of the night. She also loves her vibrating bouncey chair, car rides, being rocked, basically anything with motion.

We continue to learn new things about her every day. Happy birthday Mikayla!!
